Meeting Notes for July 11, 2008
- Minutes from last time and other minutes are being reviewed by Cathy and Delonda for ways to extract policy and procedures from existing minutes. Delonda will start
- New program with Delonda handling all aspects of retro dissertation is going wonderfully and so hopefully that will expand into retro and brittle books.
- Impact on other aspects of work, with all SULs and with Janus challenges, and issues of necessary overlap.
- How shared storage will deal with brittle books; issues of accepting/holding/maintaining/circulating or restricting circulation of the brittle books, maybe ask Ben Walker to come in and discuss more with us.
- How will stats impact ratings (fine on SACS, ACRL, but what other ratings could be issues)?
- Meeting time will soon be changed so we can all meet with Delonda
- New meetings will be on Wednesday from 9-10am in room West 419 (or another as needed), starting on July 23 and then every two weeks
- Nancy on field 583 in MARC, used to track preservation decisions (OCLC page is here).
- Has lots of subfields, Nancy is using mainly A and C for digital replacement and information from the BB flags.
- Selector listed in A and BB Flag listed in C
- Generally want to put note on BIB or the Holdings record?
- Aleph has some eccentricities (like not actually making the nonpublic note, subfield x, nonpublic) so that will dictate some options
- Planning for macro for "Selected for digitization" note being more streamlined/automated if possible. The other notes need to include Action (decision, ie selected for digitization), Date, Selector
- Print on demand with Delonda doing BB scanning and adding Request/"Print Me" button to the entries in the catalog. Science can easily do this and already have a procedure for it, but maybe more complicated for other libraries.
- From last time, question was is this note going to go to all SUS or local only or what?
- DISC discussion 7-9-08 preferred to know when copies were online, but how does Google API
- OCLC improving links with Google Books for library partners, but this is still in process
- Meeting concluded for now, but we'll come back to other agenda items at the next meeting on June 23
