Agenda item: Phase 3 discussion
A general consensus was that the selectors will have to review their materials in ALF 1 for inclusion in the state-wide facility. At the same time, they can evaluate materials for brittleness. It is unlikely that there will be a holding space for brittle items, since many things were sent to ALF due to lack of space; we also do not want to create another brittle book backlog even if there were a space somewhere. Therefore, only extremely important brittle materials that selectors wish to maintain as UF property may be pulled for digitization or replacement. Materials that selectors find are less important to be preserved as UF-only property will have a note, probably the 583, added in order to track the materials that have been evaluated as brittle and that selectors may want to digitize or replace in the future. However, it is unclear what agency will be responsible for funding this future replacement, as these materials, once in the state-wide facility, will belong to that facility.
There was a consensus that Phase 2 would be ongoing until ALF 1 is emptied, so that any items that circulate from ALF 1 would be evaluated from brittleness on their return to the Libraries
